The Obscene Publications Act 1959 and 1964 relates to the publication, distribution, showing, giving and possession of 'obscene' articles for gain (profit). It is not an offence to merely possess obscene articles under this legislation.
Obscenity is a difficult test to apply. For the purposes of these Acts an article is considered obscene if its effect “depraves and corrupts” persons who are likely to read, see or hear it.
Assuming that 'gain' was involved, then as a guide, obscene articles would include images featuring sexual acts such as bestiality, non-consensual sex or torture.
