e-shopping & auctions > online auctions - eBay > I think the seller is a business trader but he says he is a private seller
Business traders will sometimes pretend to be a private seller in order to avoid their legal responsibilities.
The Business Advertisement Disclosure Order 1977 requires advertisers to state if they are a business. It is a criminal offence with a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment and/or a £5000 fine.
If you are having problems with a purchase and you suspect that the person you have bought goods from is not really a private seller, you should complain to Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506.
