e-shopping & auctions > e-shopping > The retailer sent me the wrong item and I can't get them to pick it up

If a retailer sends you the wrong item, you should ask them to arrange for the item to be returned to them. If you post it back, you may not get the postage refunded.

If the retailer does not arrange to pick it up within a reasonable time i.e. 7-10 days. Then write to the retailer explaining that they are in breach of contract for delivering the wrong goods. That you have requested the wrong goods to be returned but it has not been done. Inform them that have 7-10 days to arrange for the return of the wrongly delivered goods. That you will not provide storage for their goods after that time. Post the letter but ask for a proof of postage. Keep a copy of the letter for your records.

You can then allow them the opportunity to try and deliver the right goods. Under the Distance Selling Act the retailer has 30 days to send your original order. However, under the Distance Selling Act you still have a cooling off period. This gives you the option to return the goods within 7 days after they arrive if you have changed your mind about the order.

If 30 days have passed you can cancel the order.
