The first step is to contact the retailer involved and try to resolve it with them. Should you be unable to resolve the dispute and the item cost £100-£30,000, then Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act applies. This means that you should be able to get your money back from your credit card company. If it is less than a £100 you will need to go to Small Claims Court.

If the claim is against someone who is difficult to trace, or has no money, you may have to write the loss off to experience.
